Commercial Timber Frame Front Entry — Two Douglas Fir King Post timber frame trusses with curved braces create shelter and and a welcoming entry to the Clubhouse at Black Point at Linville Falls

Reclaimed beams lucchese retail store Houston TX — The Houston store is the fourth and largest in the brand’s storied history. Century old reclaimed beams and paneling form the perfect backdrop for drop-dead gorgeous boots and bags. The rough wood look and feel makes the upscale treasures even more glamorous!

Commercial timber frame entry at Lees-McRae college — Pairs of timber posts add visual interests to a contemporary timber frame entry at the Student Rec complex at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina.

Timber Frame Commercial clubhouse — A favorite design choice of ours is the gently curved knee brace or struts. This softens the heavy lines, for a more organic look and feel. This Community Center with private pool and waterfalls, is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, close to Linville Falls, North Carolina. Carolina Timberworks crafted and installed the Douglas Fir timber frame covered porches.

timber frame historical restoration — There’s something about Scissor Trusses that really catch the eye, right? Without a center King Post, they seem especially light. This was a historical timber restoration project we did for St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Two of the trusses were damaged in a wind storm. We used matching species (Antique Heart Pine), and even went so far as to cut the joinery on site without power tools in Lincolnton, North Carolina.

Timber frame clubhouse at the Headwaters at Banner Elk — A light and airy timber frame design at the clubhouse in Headwaters at Banner Elk. The light, clean grain of Douglas Fir partners with structural metal tie rods to allow spectacular mountain views.

timber frame office space — Our client wanted his offices to have the look and feel of a mountain lodge. Timber frame office construction fit the bill, and built and ininstalled rough sawn Western Red Cedar trusses in the Treadstone Group’s corporate headquarters in Denver, North Carolina. The inspiration for the fireplace and mantel came from the Bob Timberlake Gallery.

Commercial timber frame entry at Hospitality House Boone NC — A timber frame entry to a commercial building can set the tone and mood for an entire establishment, as this entry suggests permanence and stability for the Hospitality House of Boone.

Medical Facility Timber Frame Porte Cochere Entry — A commercial timber framed Porte Cochere at Boone Dermatology’s new clinic in Boone, North Carolina. Porte-cochère is french and translated means ‘coach gateway’. A working definition we like is ‘a covered entrance large enough for vehicles to pass through and pick up and drop off dignitaries…’

timber frame medical offices — David Patrick Moses, the architect on this project, simply wows us with the sheer size of these very large (12″ x 12″) Douglas Fir posts in the waiting room of Boone Dermatology. The timbers were box heart (meaning they were cut so as to include the center of the tree) and one characteristic of box heart timber is that it tends to check (split) more as it dries than free-of-heart timber. This adds character without sacrificing structure.

Commercial timber frame Sugar Mountain Clubhouse — King Post trusses of rough-sawn Eastern White Pine grace the porch of the Clubhouse of Sugar Mountain Ski Resort. Designed by Pavelchak Architecture, and built by Enterline & Russell Builders of Blowing Rock, North Carolina.

Commercial timber frame town hall meeting room — For a multi-purpose meeting room, such as the Sugar Mountain Town Hall, timber frame construction and timber trusses create beautiful spaces for public discussion.

Timber frame winery pavilion — There’s something important about the experience of being in a timber frame. Certainly there’s the undeniable beauty of timber framing, almost art at times. But perhaps there’s another more subtle benefit–on some unconscious level we feel a sense of security and safety living under a timber frame roof. Unlike a stick-framed structure, in a timber framed building, we can see exactly what is holding up the roof, keeping us safe when nature’s bad side shows up. Grandfather Vineyard & Winery’s timber frame pavilion sees a lot of use. In addition to weddings, music events, private dinners, and wine-tastings, here it serves as the venue for a meeting of the local home builders association

Timber frame post and beam bus shelter — This bus shelter is located close by our old shop in Boone, North Carolina. The funny thing is that Appalachian State University students won’t stand under it unless it’s raining. We think it needs a bench…

Metal plate post and beam commercial timber frame — From the Piedmont of North Carolina, in Mooresville, North Carolina comes this interesting design marrying metal and wood. Metal plates connect 8×8 Douglas Fir struts & King Posts–a contrast to traditional pegged mortise and tenon joinery.
